MECHANICAL POSES - Framsýning - Exhibition
/Jón Sonni Jensen sýnir fram í Víngarðinum
MECHANICAL POSES er heitið á serframsýningini hjá Jón Sonna Jensen, sum letur upp í Víngarðinum í Tróndargøtu 31 leygardagin 14.mai klokkan 15-17.
Tá vit skulu lýsa verkini hjá Jón Sonna Jensen, hendir tað so ógvuliga skjótt, at umrøðan snýr seg um tað tilfarsliga.
Relieffini eru still – sjálvandi - men av tí, at verkini eru so sansalig, sum tey eru, hómar áskoðarin kortini ljóð og rørslur t.d.

Exhibition by Jón Sonni Jensen at Víngarðurin
The solo exhibition at Víngarðurin by Jón Sonni Jensen is titled MECHANICAL POSES. It opens on Saturday the 14th of May from 3 pm to 5 pm.
When we are to describe Jón Sonni Jensen’s art, the conversation quickly becomes about the materiality of his work. It is one thing that his pieces are made from construction materials such as foam, plaster and silver foil, some which are relatively unconventional in an artistic context, but the work is simultaneously tremendously physical and present in the space. Several of the artworks have a blistered and porous surface, which seems to be the result of a material, once liquid and soft that has dried and become hard and rigid. Opposites like these are present in many of the pieces that seem light and humourous yet deeply serious.
On the walls we see a series of figures reminiscent of sculptural reliefs. All of them are twisted and bent variants of the classical architectural columnar form. The work resembles some sort of mechanical functionality such as tubing and structural installations, whilst at the same time bearing concise organic intentions in the arched and concave shapes. The surfaces show variations of matte and glossy finishes. The work has an interesting sensuous and hedonistic quality, which is emphasized by the recurring pink colour. Pink is a special colour that simultaneously gives connotations to skin and the corporeal and indeed something much more unnatural and cultural.
The reliefs are of course motionless, but because of their sensuous nature the viewer can still discern some sounds and movement. For example in the crispy silver foil, which decorates some of the work as well as gathering other pieces. The dry, stiff and blistering foam surfaces carry a different note, perhaps one similar to rice crackers. The material combinations of Jón Sonni’s work are also teeming with opposites such as something free and something bound as well as the connection between the bodily and the cerebral. His work seems almost made for the space at Víngarðurin where the exhibition MECHANICAL POSES will be on display until the 9th of July. We want to welcome everyone to the opening on the 14th of May from 3 pm till 5 pm, where Kim Simonsen will be opening the show with a speech.
